The East Central University Chorale and University Chorus will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday [DEC. 3] at St. Joseph Catholic Church under the direction of Dr. Steven Walker, professor of music.
Three original works will be performed by the University Chorale, "Actus Fidei" by ECU student Jason Oss, and "Behold! I Set My Rainbow in the Clouds" and "Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem," both by Victoria Davison of Ada and adjunct instructor Rudy Lupinski.
"Behold! I Set My Rainbow in the Clouds" is an adaptation of Genesis 9:12-17, which says God will see the rainbow and remember his promise that floods would never again destroy the earth. "Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem" is an adaptation of Psalm 122:6-7.
Also on the University Chorale program are "O Crux Ave" by William Barnum, "Notre Pere" by Maurice Durufle and "Appletree" by Jeremiah Ingalls.
The centerpiece of the concert will be the University Chorus' performance of Mozart's "Requiem" with Rachael Locke as soprano soloist.
The "Requiem," one of Mozart's most powerful and recognized works, also was his last. It is known not only for its music, but also for the debate over how much of it Mozart managed to complete before his death.
