All scholarships require full-time attendance (12 hours for undergraduate; 6 hours for graduate) unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships are for fall and/or spring semester only (summer not included) unless indicated otherwise.
All recipients are recommended by the department, with final approval by the ECU Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Any exceptions must be approved by the department chair and the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


ADA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION LORETTA YIN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an upper-level student who is majoring in Art. The funds for this scholarship were obtained by proceeds from art shows and is in special honor of Loretta Yin, a local artist.

ELIZABETH BLAKESLY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an Art or Vocal Music student who maintains at least a 3.0 GPA. Ms. Blakesly was a long-time resident of Ada and was a great supporter of ECU and its students.

EMMA BOX VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Art. Ms. Box was a former instructor in the Art Department and this scholarship was established in her memory by students and colleagues.

BRILES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Originally established as part of the Federal Student Loan Program, this scholarship was transferred to the ECU Foundation in 1995.

NORA MARIE CASIANO SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a student with a declared major of Art, within the School of Fine Arts at East Central University. Preference will be given to women or non-binary persons of color. Selection will be made by the ECU Foundation Scholarship Committee. The recipient will be chosen each spring semester to be awarded the following fall semester. This scholarship was established in honor of ECU alumna April Casiano and her mother.  

HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY ART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an Art major who has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA, and who is enrolled in a research track course or who plans to provide a research proposal for at least one semester of the awarded year. If approved, the student may also be asked to actively exhibit work in at least two exhibits per semester during the award year. Dorothy Higginbotham was an ECU alumna who understood and recognized the value of higher education and established this scholarship as part of her estate planning.

GLADYS KENDALL ART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in Art and will be based on artistic and creative potential, financial need, and departmental contribution. This fund was established by the family of Ms. Kendall.

JAMES SAIED ART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Consideration will be given to the student’s character, personality, and general contribution to the Art program. Mr. Saied graduated in 1936, and was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1990. 

LEON POLK SMITH ART SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to students majoring in Art based on artistic and creative potential, financial need, and departmental contribution. There will be an annual award for each classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior).  Mr. Smith was an ECU alumnus who gained international fame as an artist; this scholarship was established by his family, friends, and colleagues.

R. GRANT THORP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The recipient of this scholarship will be an Art major with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or a GPA of 3.0 in the last 30 hours. Selection will be based on academic record and non-academic related community service. Mr. Thorp was an art professor at ECU and this scholarship was established by his family, friends, and colleagues after his untimely death in 1994.

RUTH WALKER/LANDRUM SCULPTURE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding Art student who excels in sculpture. This scholarship has been established by the family of Mrs. Walker/Landrum in recognition of her contribution to ECU as an art instructor.
