All scholarships require full-time attendance (12 hours for undergraduate; 6 hours for graduate) unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships require a 3.0 cumulative GPA unless indicated otherwise.
All scholarships are for fall and/or spring semester only (summer not included) unless indicated otherwise.
All recipients are recommended by the department, with final approval by the ECU Foundation Scholarship Committee.
Any exceptions must be approved by the department chair and the Foundation Scholarship Committee.


DUANE C. AND MARIAN L. ANDERSON HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in History who plans to attend graduate school. Dr. Anderson served as Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Provost of ECU for several years and his wife Marian was also a long-time employee. This scholarship was established in their honor by family, friends, and colleagues.

DR. SCOTT BARTON HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the History department. Dr. Barton taught at ECU from 1993 to 2023 and this scholarship was established in his honor by his family.  Dr. Barton was department chair of the History Department and the first dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.   

DR. PALMER BOEGER HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the History department. Dr. Boeger taught at ECU from 1969 to 1993 and this scholarship was established in his honor and memory by friends, family, and colleagues.

BRILES SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded based on need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Originally established as a part of the Federal Student Loan Program, this scholarship was transferred to the ECU Foundation in 1995.

DR. RAYMOND ESTEP HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP 
This scholarship is available to History majors who have completed at least 60 hours and have maintained a 3.5 GPA in history and a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Dr. Estep was an ECU Distinguished Alumnus and established this scholarship to assist students in the study of history. 

DR. RAYMOND ESTEP HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP (incoming freshmen only)
This scholarship will be awarded to incoming freshmen with a declared major of History. Dr. Estep was an ECU Distinguished Alumnus and established this scholarship to assist students in the study of history.

LLOYD GOSS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the History department. Dr. Goss was a long-time faculty member in the department and this was established in his honor.

HIGGINBOTHAM FAMILY HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a History major who has completed at least 60 hours with a minimum of 15 hours in history. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required and the applicant must prepare an essay detailing his/her career goals and intended use of his/her History degree. The recipient of this scholarship is not eligible for the Louise Hornbeak Scholarship, but may qualify for the Dr. Raymond Estep scholarships. Dorothy Higginbotham was an ECU alumna who understood and recognized the value of higher education and established this scholarship as part of her estate planning.

LOUISE HORNBEAK HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded at the discretion of the department. Ms. Hornbeak was a long-time member of the History department faculty and this scholarship was established after her death in 1991 as part of her estate planning.

DR. MARVIN KROEKER ANNUAL BEST HISTORICAL RESEARCH PAPER AWARD
This will be an annual award to the History student who prepares the best paper in his/her major. This fund was established by Dr. Kroeker, a long-time member of the History department faculty.

BRAD LEMARR MEMORIAL HISTORY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior History major who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above, is a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History honor society), and has presented a paper or poster at one of the following: Phi Alpha Theta Research Day, the Great Plains Honors Conference, or Alpha Chi. This scholarship was established by Dr. Jody Tacker, sister of Brad LeMarr, after his tragic death in January 2015. Both Jody and Brad were outstanding History students at ECU and Dr. Tacker wanted to keep the memory of her brother alive with the establishment of this scholarship.
